Every so often I’ll get a touch of sciatica—essentially, something in my lower back is getting compressed and it sends shooting pains down my left leg. I also have an issue with the left hip where something is getting compressed and it’s sending pain diagonally across the hip and pulling on something on the inner side of my left knee.
All of which is to say that I had a truly shitty night last night because my left knee kept throbbing like a rotten tooth no matter what position I slept in and absolutely nothing I had in the house was touching the pain. Luckily I already know what the cure for this is—I need to get up and walk more. I’ve been a bad girl and skipping my treadmill time and this is my punishment for it.
So as of today I’ll start hitting the treadmill daily because I would really like this compression to relax and let me sleep. There’s no way to put a standing desk in my office (and frankly that would cause me more pain as well) but I’m going to set an hourly alarm that will remind me to get up and move around for five minutes, which will also help.
Getting old is not for wimps, that’s a damned fact.
For me, at least, it’s finding stuff that I’d forgotten I had and want to do something with (like a cool swashbuckling hat that’s great for TikTok videos). I really have to be stern with myself and say, “No, we’re going to put that away. You can play with it when you have time, but right now you’re cleaning.”
We have a runoff election for Collin College Board of Trustees so I stopped off at Carpenter Park to do my duty as a citizen. Yes, I vote in every election because if I don’t vote, I can’t bitch. Besides, I like collecting my little sticker.
June has started with me getting all of the personal and business finances organized and up to date, all bill paperwork and receipts filed, and I even have the projected taxes calculated and ready to go on 6/15/23 and a reminder set up in Outlook. Because I know, I know, that something will happen that will completely blow any thought of that straight out of my mind and I’ll be sitting here at 11:59 PM on the fifteenth thinking, “…wasn’t there something I was supposed to do today?”
Seeing as I had a hell of a time getting to sleep last night I had a remarkably productive day (I did kinda think I was going to collapse into a coma around 5 but I powered through it). Got another Nicola book formatted and off to Smashwords and Google Play, worked on another episode for Kindle Vella, did my blog posts, updated the financial records for the month, got the bezel soldered for a pendant I’m making (I know I’m too tired to do any more work on it now—the setting will involve eensy pure silver balls and I need to be fully awake for that) and now I’m gonna go do my time on the treadmill, tra la!
I’ll take Sunday off, I promise.
Hahahahahahahahahahaha. Have you met me?
The nice young man from the HVAC company got here around 10 AM, which was enough time for me to dust and spray a little air freshener (I vacuumed everything yesterday). He immediately got to work, and a half hour later we had a laundry list of things that needed to be fixed (which I already knew from the checkup visit back in March).
