I’ve now claimed belaurientpress.com as a domain and redirected it to the Belaurient Press page here. That was necessary because I *ta da* now have a business PayPal account and need to add a business URL in the settings.

I don’t know if I’m going to bother with setting up an actual individual website for Belaurient Press—it’s only my books, Nicola’s books, and the anthos for my writer’s group so a whole separate website seems like overkill. But it’s all another step towards becoming my ultimate small businesswoman self and taking over the world, muwahahahahahaha.

More importantly, now that I have my business PayPal account I can start adding purchase links for all my/Nicola’s print books (I can sell ebooks as well because I have a BookSprout account but I need to do more research into how to fulfill ebook sales) as well as the Belaurient Arts jewelry. Now all I have to do is start recording the audiobooks and set up my Patreon and I’ll be well away.

Whoa

It is amazing, how much better you feel after a good night’s sleep. I actually want to work and don’t want the world to explode anymore.

Which is good because I have mondo work ahead of me today. I already finished formatting and uploading a Nicola novel and short story to the ‘Zon, Smashwords, and Google Play, and I need to start formatting another novel while working on a new Vella episode to upload tonight. In between all that I have to run to the store and get some stuff for dinner tonight, and I really need to sweep and vacuum the ground floor (since we’re not under an extreme heat warning I can use a large appliance during the day) and see about cleaning the downstairs bathroom. If I’m a very good girl and get all of my work done, I can play with a really cool wire wrapping pattern for a star pendant (or earrings, since these cabs are somewhat small).

And in future events news we have tickets to go see Suzy (née Eddie) Izzard in November! I am so happy!

Looking Forward to the Weekend

And before you say, “Hey, Mel, you work for yourself and set your own hours—why do you care if it’s the weekend?” you must remember that I regularly work 60 hour weeks as the owner of my own business and having two days where I can occasionally force my brain into taking a break is a Good Thing.

Not that I’ll be taking much of a break this weekend, though. I need to clean the bathrooms, vacuum my office, file a bunch of paperwork, and start working up a list of packaging costs (buying boxes, decorating them, and actual shipping costs) for any printed books I sell from the website.

Not to mention that my office closet keeps singing its siren song to me, begging me to pull everything out of it and clean/reorganize it. That in itself will easily eat up a full day, but it would allow me to put a lot of stuff away in a much more logical fashion and open up more room in my office proper. *sigh* Decisions…

Man, This Week Is Flying By

Monday was spent trying to recover from that crappy night of pain and no sleep so I wasn’t able to get all the things done that day.

Instead, I went into my bank yesterday and opened a business checking and savings account. The nice thing is that I can access everything online (I’m kind of a fiend for keeping track of my money online), and now that I have those I can go ahead and get the business PayPal account set up. Once that’s done, tra la, I can finally start selling stuff from the website.

I also have a fun business project to tackle—coming up with a pretty design for book boxes. Romance readers in particular really dig having a pretty book box with swag when they order signed copies from an author, and since I have access to Lyndon’s Silhouette I can design and cut out adhesive vinyl stickers that I can put on a box and make it gorgeous. Yeah, there are companies that will do this for you but 1) that costs money I don’t have, and 2) once I get the design finished I can produce a stack of boxes over a Saturday and have them at hand for shipping printed copies of my books.

Onward!

The Dangers of Cleaning

For me, at least, it’s finding stuff that I’d forgotten I had and want to do something with (like a cool swashbuckling hat that’s great for TikTok videos). I really have to be stern with myself and say, “No, we’re going to put that away. You can play with it when you have time, but right now you’re cleaning.”

That really is a freaking cool hat, though.

In other news this upcoming week shall be one of Business, Business, Business. I need to talk to someone who wants me to do some contract work for them, work on laying out a t-shirt quilt for a friend, come up with a design for a pendant that another friend is paying me to make, and then there’s all the business bank account and PayPal stuff that I need to get set up. But it’s all part of being a small businesswoman so I’ll pull on my Small Businesswoman Panties (in a nice tweed with pearl accents) and get it done.

Rabbit Rabb—Eh, You Know the Drill

June has started with me getting all of the personal and business finances organized and up to date, all bill paperwork and receipts filed, and I even have the projected taxes calculated and ready to go on 6/15/23 and a reminder set up in Outlook. Because I know, I know, that something will happen that will completely blow any thought of that straight out of my mind and I’ll be sitting here at 11:59 PM on the fifteenth thinking, “…wasn’t there something I was supposed to do today?”

Computerized reminders are a godsend, I swear.

In the meantime I’ve got a new custom pendant order on its way and I also got word that my next quilting project is in the mail. I’m doing a t-shirt quilt for a friend’s daughter and she wants a stained glass effect with different sized panels so I’m going to take a look at the shirts when they arrive and see how best I can fit them all together. This should be fun.
